Arrr Matey!
During my Language Arts Methods course at St. Thomas University, I created an under water themed book box for a young intermediate level reader.
I designed the book box in an eye-catching manner and filed it with good-fit and interesting books for children with this reading level. As you can see, I also included a pirate hat for the reader to wear during their literacy block.
I have attached a detailed list of the book box content below.

Lesson Plans
My first internship was in a Kindergarten class at Connaught Street Elementary School. I was fortunate enough to work closely with the students during their literacy period. For these students, literacy was either a Writing Workshop or a Modified Daily Five rotation.
Below, I have provided detailed overviews of my literacy lessons as well as sample pictures of the morning messages for these lessons.

Writing Workshop

This is an example of a morning message for a Writing Workshop lesson.
I provided the students with a simple sample sentence, something that had actually happened to me the night before. In Writing Workshop we like to focus on real events and tell true stories.
Writing Workshop also includes a quick sketch to go along with the story, I demonstrated this with the two stick people. I labelled my stick people, something that I ask the students to do with their own work.

Modified Daily Five

This is the morning message used in the lesson plan that I have attached below.
The students worked together to fill in the blanks in my mystery message.
Together, they also sounded out the words in my rhyming message.
The helper, in this case Sam, shared news with the class. That morning, Sam's news was: When I woke up I watched a scary movie. The class sounded out Sam's news to the best of their ability and I wrote down the final product: "Wn I wck up I wtch a sacr mv."
Morning message was quite possibly one of my favourite parts of the day. It provided me with the chance to talk to the class as a whole and work individually with the special helper.
