Social Studies
Personal Reflective Journal
During my Social Studies methods course, I collected an abundance of resources. I have recorded these resources and put them in a Personal Reflective Journal. The Personal Reflective Journal is too lengthy to provide a link to it's entirety so I have provided a link for each section below.
The methods and structures section contains various approaches to organizing students in any classroom. However, I have extended this section and described the manner in which I would integrate the various methods and structures into a Social Studies classroom.
The strategies and techniques section contains various activities that will enhance a student's learning in any classroom. Again, I have provided instructions on how to integrate these strategies and techniques into a Social Studies Classroom. I have also provided step-by-step instructions and the necessary materials to complete theses activities.
The article reflection section contains a reflection on three of the most significant articles I read regarding Social Studies. I chose the three that stood out the most to me as significant in the sense that they could, in theory, be used in one of my future classrooms. I have reflected upon whether or not the strategies and practices suggested in the selected articles are realistically applicable in a classroom.
Lesson Plans
I have provided an example of a lesson I created for Grade 4 Social Studies. This lesson explores the New Brunswick Department of Education Curriculum Outcome 4.2.1: Examining the Different Stories of Explorers of Land, Time, and Space.
I feel that it is important to integrate technology into the classroom. I created a podcast lesson to compliment the New Brunswick Department of Education Grade Five Curriculum
Outcome 5.2.1: Explain how the Environment Influenced the Development of an Ancient Society.

Cross-curicular connections can be easily made by having students create a wall map using a local newspaper. Students will be provided with the opportunity to visualize exactly where their news is coming from, while simultaneously reading and writing summaries of the articles. I have provided a detailed explanation and step-by-step instructions for this activity below.
