Summative Math E-Portfolio
The following is a combination of research, work, and reflections that I feel demonstrates what I have learned, thus far, about elementary mathematics. Beneath each title you will find a brief description of that section as well as a link to a PDF containing my work.
Annotated Bibliography
I have taken the time to read various articles about elementary mathematics. I focused my research on integrating manipulatives into the classroom, however there are also articles that look at gender and the beauty of mathematics.
1. Model With Manipulatives (Kids find fractions fun when they come in 3-D)
2. Math – Gender Stereotypes in Elementary School Children
3. Manipulatives Work!
4. Beauty in the Elementary Classroom!
5. Tips for Teaching Math to Elementary Students
6. Hands on, Minds on Math

NCTM Article Reviews
This semester I peer-taught a lesson about estimation. Estimation incorporates both number sense and mental mathematics, the following NCTM articles review those concepts.
1. Number Sense - Right Now!
2. Do the Math in Your Head!
3. Computation, Calculators and Common Sense

Technology
Technology has become extremely embedded in our culture. The students of today are accustomed to technology and for this reason it is important that it is incorporated into the classroom. Below, I have provided one website that I think is an excellent classroom tool as well as two lessons that I have created that integrate technology into the classroom.
1. The following website provides both students and teachers with access to virtual manipulatives. The website gives access to various grade levels, manipulatives, and backgrounds for those manipulatives.

2. This
first grade geometry lesson incorporates technology by making using of digital
cameras and the Smart Board.
3. This
Smart Board lesson is designed to be a fun and quick fall review of introductory
mathematical concepts, such as addition and patterns.
Math Manipulatives
Math manipulatives provides students with the opportunity to experience abstract concepts in a hands-on manner. I have provided a brief description of various manipulatives as well as methods for integrating them into the classroom.
