I consider myself a lifelong learner. Throughout my Bachelor of Education, I have taken a multitude of methods courses in order to prepare myself for any school setting. However, these methods courses are just the beginning.
Personal Development sessions have expanded on my classroom knowledge and provided me with the opportunity for growth and awareness, both inside and outside of the classroom. I feel as though by partaking in these workshops I have gained tools to implement into my teaching and in turn have developed as both an individual and a teacher.

The Daily Five program provides students with many approaches to acquiring necessary linguistic skills. WIthin one literacy block, students are able to practice writing, reading, their vocabulary and are also provided with technology to listen to reading and practice their word work skills.

It is a guide that is easy to refer to and is full of ideas for instilling a sense of literacy independence within my students.

The CAFE Book is by the same authors of The Daily 5. This book is a wonderful resource the guides in structuring daily reading and classroom discussion. It is a system that even incorporates goal-setting and individual student conferences.
I have seen this Language Arts strategy also referred to as "FACE." Face is a word that is more common in a young student's vocabulary than the word "cafe." I loved the idea of renaming this strategy while still making use of all of the fabulous content.

Curriculum 21: Essential Education for a Changing World
![Picture](/uploads/1/3/6/6/13663349/845734.jpg)
This book was given to me upon my arrival at the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen. It has been both a helpful guide and a cause of self-reflection. The author focuses on the necessary elements of twenty-first century learning, indicating that our classrooms should be structured in the same manner that the environments outside of our classroom now operate.
The content in this book ranges from assessment practices to the habits of mind that students, teachers, and administrators need to develop in order to be successful in today's fast pace environment. This book has be a helpful tool as my current school, ISNS, moves towards an IB curriculum but is one that I will continue to refer to regardless.
